Help Celebrate 70 Years of Inclusion!

Did you know that 1 in 10 adolescents are bullied? Did you know that 5 in 10 adolescents with physical or mental differences are bullied? Education plays a key role in reducing bullying at school and at work. It plays a key role in welcoming into the workplace and into our lives those who are physically or mentally different than we are. And since words make a difference, let’s not use words like “disabled” or “impaired,” and simply use the word “different.” NDEAM provides many ways to help celebrate #inclusionworks:

ODEP (Office of Disability Employment Policy) at the U.S. Department of Labor provides free materials and resources for individuals, organizations, or educators. ODEP states:

“Reflecting the important role disability plays in workforce diversity, this year’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) theme is “#InclusionWorks.” Observed each October, NDEAM celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities and educates about the value of a diverse workforce inclusive of their skills and talents. The annual theme is announced early to facilitate advance planning of events. The official 2016 NDEAM poster is now available.”

Plan observances or watch the  31 Day Slide Show or use many of the other ideas offered to employers, educators, youth service professionals and more.
